Achilles Tendon Injury Assessment and Treatment.

Achilles Tendonitis is very common in sport or general lifestyle situations.

Achilles Tendinopathy can have many causes that affect the tendon and the tendon sheath (paratenon tissue).

Stiffness of the Achilles and swelling can indicate an Achilles problem.

Tight calf muscles, overpronation and overuse with extended mileage when distance running can all contribute to a painful Achilles tendon.

Careful management needs to be employed if you want a successful recovery.

Chronic conditions may need shockwave therapy and a bespoke rehab programme.

Warning –

Many therapists, especially physiotherapists, give eccentric contractions (lowering heel off a step) as a means of treating the injured Achilles tendon.

This is not advised as it will delay healing and often cause more pain.

This is a protocol taught at university and should only be used after the injury has repaired, not whilst injured.

At Atlas Pain Relief Centre we know how to identify the cause of Achilles Tendinopathy and provide the correct treatment and advice for a speedy recovery.
