What is Podiatry?
Podiatry is a specialist health profession that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and management of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs.
Our Solihull Podiatrist provides a specialist service for the feet and foot related conditions - however due to the unique interaction of the foot with the lower limb, a podiatrist is often involved in the treatment and management of the leg, knee, hip and lower back.
The term podiatrist originates from the Greek ‘Podo-iotris’ meaning foot physician.
What is the difference between a Podiatrist and a Chiropodist?
Both Terms refer to practitioners specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of foot conditions. Chiropody and Chiropodist is the title used mainly in the UK whilst Podiatrist and Podiatry are used in the rest of the English speaking world.
Since July 2005 both names have become protected which means that the title’s Chiropodist and Podiatrist can only be used by practitioners who are registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC) Registration is dependant on the successful completion of a BSc Degree in Podiatry and a commitment to continued professional development.
